UK Universities and Colleges with Degree Awarding powers
On this page you will find a contact list of UK educational institutions that can officially award degrees. These universities and higher education colleges are referred to as 'recognised bodies' and have been granted degree awarding powers by a Royal Charter or an Act of Parliament. The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) publishes this information and relevant updates on its website.
If the educational institution you have chosen does not appear on this list, you should check its credentials with the DfES or contact your nearest British Council office for more advice. Regrettably some non-recognised institutions offer 'bogus' degrees. Click here to read the official warning.
There are approximately 300 educational institutions which do no possess degree awarding powers but provide legitimate courses leading to a degree from a 'recognised body'. They are called 'listed bodies'. To view a list, please click here.
