Travelling safely by Taxi:
Taxis are licensed vehicles that will charge you according to a meter that calculates your fare with time and distance travelled. They will display a plate at the back of the car, stating how many passengers they are licensed to carry, and a 'for hire' sign.

Taxi drivers are vetted for criminal convictions and must possess adequate insurance and a roadworthy vehicle. In London, taxis take the form of the famous 'black cabs' and drivers must take a test based on their knowledge of roads and traffic routes.

You can stop taxis in the street, or book them by phone and internet. Be aware that taxis charge 'waiting time', so if you book one, don't keep it waiting too long!
