How do I deal with a Medical Emergency?
If you or another individual requires urgent medical assistance, you should contact emergency services immediately. Here's how:
• Telephone 999. This service is free of charge from any phone.
• An operator will answer your call immediately and ask you which emergency service you require (Police, Fire Services, Ambulance).
• Stay calm and try to describe your location and the details of the emergency.
• An ambulance and paramedic staff will attend the scene to take injured persons to hospital.
If you require urgent medical assistance, and are well enough to travel, you should make your own way to the nearest Accident and Emergency department. Emergencies not requiring hospital attention should be referred to your duty-GP, who will be on call 24 hours a day.
