General Monck travelled along this road to restore Charles II and Tom Jones entered the capital here. Originally called Grays Inn Lane (until 1862), Stow described it as a "lane furnished with fair buildings and many tenements on both sides". The road was once home to the offices of The Times and The Sunday Times and is now home to the ITN offices, designed by Sir Norman Foster.
